UQ Global Change Institute
Project Summary
The University of Queensland's Global Change Institute is a world-renowned hub for game-changing research focused on addressing the challenges of global change.
The four-storey structure is a net zero-energy carbon-neutral facility with natural ventilation, a network of onsite solar panels, operable sun-shading, a louvered façade for warmer months, a public atrium with vertical gardens, a bush tucker garden and bio-retention basin and 60,000 litre rainwater storage to service amenities.
In addition to receiving the prestigious 6 Star Green Star rating from the Green Building Council of Australia, the Institute has also been awarded Best Sustainable Development in Australia and Best Development in Queensland by the Property Council of Australia in 2016.
During the 13.5 month project, we worked closely with the University and maintenance personnel to ensure public safety and overcome challenges associated with working in a live environment with restricted access. We also achieved more than $2.5m in value management cost savings prior to works commencing on site.
